Must See to Believe!

OH MY GOODNESS! I thought this video was totally fake, but it's NOT! There really ARE such things as GIANT HORNETS! AND, 30 of them REALLY CAN take on 30,000 bees. You really need to see the video to believe it. The link above should be downloadable (though it is almost 19 megs), but you can also try streaming the video by putting
"http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/magazine/pursuit/200301/movie/m01_hi.asx"
into the "Open Url" box under the "File" button on your Windows Media Player. Whatever you need to do, do it.
For more pics and info, check here. And for those of you who don't feel like doing the conversion, that 5.5cm of the queen is well over 2 inches long. This page also talks about the one way bees can fight back - by cooking the wasps.

Finally, somewhere in the world other than South America has some scary critters (such as my friend the Candiru. Read more about him here and here. And yes folks, it's all true. Read about him if you dare. I do caution you though, some of the pictures are rather graphic. Guys will not be able to read without crossing their legs and squirming.)

Pranks

Ah, the wonderful world of pranks ;p
If you need a laugh, check out cockeyed.com's prank page. They're all pretty great, but I think one of my favs would have to be "The Lid Sign."
Read and laugh my friends, read and laugh.

THEL - Tactical High Energy Laser

Yep, life is becoming more and more like the movies. We now have an actual laser that can shoot down incoming projectiles. It's called THEL - Tacical High Energy Laser, or just call it the Nautilus.
I actually was able to find a couple of videos of it at work, one of them is here (Link is directly to video file - Right click if you want to download).
NOW, the only problem that remains is to figure out to "have sharks with frickin laser beams attached to their heads." Yeah Baby.
Some people are just plain stupid - PainStation.

Interesting. I just found out that I share my birthday with Tim Allen, Malcolm McDowell, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, James Maxwell, and William Butler Yeats, among others. Hmm...comic guy, creepy guy, cute girls, computational guy, and compositional guy...
Anyway, check out your own B-Day info here.

Very cool pictures of colored smoke - I'm not sure how they were taken, but they're nice. Would make good background images for your desktop.

On second thought and with more perusal, check out the entire site of sensitivelight.com. The pictures are amazing! I especially love the macro work with hoverflies. I never knew they were so colorful!
The Birds of Prey page is incredible also. The whole site actually - just browse around and have fun on it.

If you have the bandwidth to handle a 60 meg download, this is a great little animation short (Rockfish) by BLUR. You'd be surprised to learn how much they do in the industry. Check them out.
