I have seen the future and the future is fast. I'm not kidding. The title on this is no joke. I'd heard of million round per minute weapons, but now I've seen them. Test firing of 180 rounds in just over a hundredth of a second - they sound like one round fired.
It's something you kind of need to see to believe, but if you don't have a fast connection, forget it. The files are huge (over to 330 megs all together), but at least read and check out the pics.
Jaw-droppingly amazing, but a little scary at the same time. Also, fully electronic "smart" handguns. Choice of lethal/non-lethal rounds and thumbprint recognition. That way, you can't get shot with your own gun. You could still get beat over the head with it though.

Tin-Foiled Apartment
Okay, so you have a buddy who needs a place to stay, and you let him crash at your place. New Year's eve - you go out, he stays home. He gets bored, decides to play a prank on you. You get home and find your entire apartment wrapped in tin foil. And I do mean entire.
That's the story, the pictures are here.

Check it out! Your screen is not fuzzy, it really is a car made out of Legos. Specifically, a VolvoXC90.

And you thought you had it bad. Check out this true story of a man who has been stranded in an airport for more than ten years.
Weirdness factor: 8
UPDATE 4-23-04
Very weird - right after I read this story this story, I found out that Tom Hanks is starring in a movie that has suspiciously similar plotline. Check it out - art imitating life! As they say, truth IS stranger than fiction.

Hmmm...interesting piece of news that I haven't seen on any of the main stations - al-Qaida activity.
And about those WMDs? Nothing yet, but check out some MIGs buried in the sands of Iraq.
How does stuff like this not get more widely reported? How come we don't hear about it?

Okay, I tried it and it worked. Open a new Word document and type in "= rand (200,99) " - no quotes. It'll take a second, but it's an amusing easter egg (secret code in a piece of software).
Oh, found it on this site.

Give people time, a pencil, and a sharp knife, and amazing things can happen. Check it out - Pencil Carving.
I especially like the ball-joint one in the "To see our wroks" link. Simply amazing.
Problem is, now I want to try.

Chernobyl
Wow, this is really amazing. A pictorial tour of Chernobyl, or as she calls it, GHOST TOWN, given by probably one of the few people willing and able to do it. Quite amazing.
Almost 2.4 million people have seen this site, but since it is hosted on angelfire, sometimes bandwidth limitations shut it down. As such, I stripped the whole site (using WebStripper) onto my computer. The whole site is just under seven megs, if you want to get it yourself.

Okay, this is truly one of the coolest things I've found on the web. It sounds funny, but The Rasterbator is sure to provide a cool new look for one of your walls. Ever wonder how they get those big pics that cover entire walls? Well, here's your chance to get one of your own. Enjoy.
PS - Mail me a pic of your wall when you get it done. I'll try to post mine soon.

UPDATE - Okay, here is a sample of a rasterized pic. It's a tree stump I found in Yosemite. To get an idea of the size, each square is a regular sheet of paper. I'll post another pic when I get it and the other ones I made put up in my room.

Easily the most amazing basketball shot I've ever seen. You just have to see the shot that defies gravity.

This is just plain fun. Text-to-speech software has come a long way. Most of the characters are good, but Audrey I think is one of the best. Try putting in a whole paragraph. The foreign languages are fun to play with too.

This one's too good to pass up. Highly imaginative and very well done. Check it out - a robot from a mini cooper.

Life is getting weirder and weirder (and cooler too). First we have AeroGel, and now we have light transmitting concrete. What's next? See-through toilets?
